Anyone who have studied Chemistry in college or university should have heard of this before. The famous Henderson-Hasslebalch Equation.
Guess what? A band named Unca John's Blues is so free, they made a song about it!
OMG... I'm so going to get a High Distinction for this subject!
Henderson said to Hasselbalch Got to figure out how most drugs react Henderson said to Hasselbalch We got to figure it out Hasslebalch said to Henderson What we really need is an equation Then our names, Messrs. H and H Will live long after we're dead Drug molecules almost invariably; two forms can you find Ionized or nonionized the pH decides And the pH where they will be half ionized We'll call the pKa Henderson said to Hasselbalch Consider the way that weak acids react When they're totally ionized They just can't be absorbed But when they're in acidic environment, where pH is low Predominantly they are nonionized Through membranes they go And the pH where they will be half ionized is their pKa Hasselbalch said to Henderson Bases can capture a hydrogen ion In that state, they are ionized and just can't be absorbed When they're in acidic environment where pH is low They're bound to be totally ionized absorbtion no no And the pH where they will be half ionized is their pKa Henderson said to Hasselbalch I think we;ve figured out how most drugs reach Henderson said to Hasslebalch I think we've figured out how most drugs react Henderson said to Hasselbalch we've really figured it out Hasselbalch said to Henderson We've got ourselves a really nice equation And our names Messrs. There was this man with a name Panda. He walked into a restaurant intending to have a few glasses of drinks and some food. There he walked in and managed to find a seat in the middle of the restaurant. He raised his hand calling for the owner to take his order.
Mr. Panda: Can I have a glass of Scotch? Owner: Sure! Mr. Panda: And a plate of beef burger too. Owner: Right away Mr. Panda.
Within a few minutes, his orders came. Enjoyed the meal and felt that he needed another drink. He raised his hand for the second time to order another glass of Scotch. He downed the Scotch as soon as it is placed on the table. Feeling all satisfied, he stood up and took out a gun and shot at a random customer in the restaurant. He then placed his gun back and turned around heading for the exit.
The owner of the restaurant of course screamed for him and stopped him from leaving the restaurant.
Owner: What the hell are you doing? Mr. Panda: What? Owner: You came to my restaurant, ate, shot one of my customer and left! Mr. Panda: Do you know what is a Panda? Owner: ???? Mr. Panda: Go check your dictionary. Mr. Panda left the restaurant while the owner went behind his bar to search for his dictionary. The owner flipped the page to P trying to find the word Panda.
Panda noun 1. a black and white bearlike mammal of Tibet and southern China that EAT SHOOTS AND LEAVE.
The biggest event of the year that I always look forward to had come and gone like a flash of light. With this year's theme, Cirque du VCP I am surprised that no one dressed up as a clown. I thought it would match the theme perfectly well! Instead, everybody came in with gorgeous looking dresses and suits. My housemate came in with a stunning gold tube dress. She must have caught a lot of innocent eyes around that night. I came in low. Just a cheongsam. A bare back one. That's all.
Prior to entry, wewere entertained by a balloon artist. A balloon artist that did not give me a balloon. The only thing he asked me was to balance a plate at the tip of my finger. And then, he asked me to balance another plate with my other finger tip. The only thing I could do then was to stand there and smile. What else was I suppose to do??? My housemate did not find him entertaining at all!
We were then ushered into the foyer where eight waiters greeted us with trays and trays of beers, wine and champagne. We got ourselves a glass of red wine. We tossed and drank. Mingled and drank. Walked around and drank. The ambiance was great. But the only thing missing out was the music. Without knowing, it was time to savour the 3 course banquet.
The grand ballroom was dimmed with yellow lights creating a really romantic mood. The tables were beautifully decorated with candelabras and wooden man as center pieces. Each and every seat had personalised name card. We even had a gift pack and a juggle ball to bring home as remembrance! The beauty of the ballroom blew me away.
What blew me away even more was this sophisticated fire dancer at the back of the ballroom.
But I soon found out he accidentally set himself on fire later during the night. Not so sophisticated after all.
As appetizer, we had tandoori chicken. Not very much like the one back home where the chicken is grilled in charcoal served with a naan. This was lightly pan fried till perfection served with green leafy salad. It still tasted like the usual tandoori chicken. Just lack of the aroma I would say and it was cold!
No one sat still to enjoy the chicken. After grabbing a few bites of the appetizer, people were all over the place snapping pictures, downing more glasses of alcohols and dancing on the dance floor. My housemate and I were one of the few rushing to the professional stationary photographer to get a few shots taken because we did not manage to buy the pictures last year! The pictures were so beautiful, we couldn't help it and bought about 4 pictures each that came up to a sum about $100. Just on the pictures alone! My housemate told me earlier in the day, "I don't think we will be spending much money tonight!" AS IF!
Feeling all satisfied, we returned to our seat for our main course. We had this non-juicy beef steaks with mashed potatoes. Not steaks... two pieces of beef. I don't know how you describe it. I only know I did not enjoy because the beef was overcooked and there wasn'tmuch gravy. Look at the picture and you can see how generous was the chef! I love gravy! =( Anyway, while we were halfway eating, the DJ played a great song. We could not resist and therefore left our meal for the dance floor. As usual, we walked around the ballroom to get more pictures taken. Mingled around. Danced a bit. The usual stuff. By this time, there were people who were already getting drunk! I guess they were really making their money worth while! Not long after, the dessert that I have been waiting for was served. I walked back to my seat and I saw this idiot sat at my place. He not only sat at my place. He took MY piece of chocolate that was on MY cake! MY CHOCOLATE! He saw me coming, he left my seat as though nothing has happened. Did I tell you I actually know him? But still! He did not have the right to take MY CHOCOLATE. I am not very close to him anyway. I don't even talk to him. I only know him by his name.
By the end of the 3 course meal, the DJ started playing some up beat songs and people started to flood the dance floor. He played quite a few of my favourites. But overall, I rate him about 5/10 because he did not keep my mood flowing. Some people were still queuing up for more alcohols but sadly, the bar closed quite early at about 11.00pm. My housemate was complaining she did not have enough. Poor girl ended up sober the whole night. I was sober too because I have good alcohol tolerance level. I did not drink much la!
I could spot a few fella who were drunk. How? Pretty easy... 1) The fella ask you if you know what is herb and spices. He will then tell you his name is pronounced as Herbs. 2) The fella ask you to wish his friend a "Happy 21st Birthday!" even though you don't know both of them. 3) The fella stops you halfway while you were walking and begs you to speak to his friend. 4) The fella keeps saying "KONICHIWA! KONICHIWA! KONICHIWA!" to you even though what you wearing is so obvious a cheongsam plus you look really Chinese.
The night will not be completed without a few poser pictures. =)
The ball ended about 12.00am. We snapped a total of 115 pictures and yet NOT satisfied!
Every single year I crack my head thinking of what kind of formal dress to buy for my university annual ball. Girls DO NOT usually wear the same dress twice for the same event! Reasons? 1) Because we want to look different every year. 2) Because we don't want our every ball pictures to look the same. 3) Because our dates (if any) do not want us to look the same. 4) Because wearing the same dress is boring. 5) Because we SIMPLY WANT TO BUY NEW ONE! =)
Hmm... I actually did repeat wearing my dress. But it was for a different event. So the above reasons still apply!
Basically this year I chose something very different from the normal dresses I usually buy. This is a traditional dress. It has a very high neck collar, cut in sleeves, a fitting waist and slits up from the sides. Plus a touch of sexiness.
A bare back cheongsam.
Every single year I crack my head again to decide which saloon to go to. Girls preferred to get their hair and make up done by someone else. Reasons again? 1) Because (again) we want to look different every year. 2) Because we don't have such good skills to do our hair and make up on our own. 3) Because we want to look pretty. 4) Because our dates (if any) want us to look pretty. 5) Because we SIMPLY WANT TO BE PAMPERED! =)
This year my housemate and I decided to try out Kairos Hair Story, a Korean saloon since we heard quite a number of good feedbacks from our friends. We made our appointment at 3.00pm but we were late for half an hour. We have a good reason for being late. Melbourne cab telephone booking system is not efficient! So, we ended up arriving at about 3.30pm. Though we were late, they still put a great smile when we walked in. They had patience in doing our hair and make up even though they had another upcoming appointment. They did not rush but make sure their job was done to the perfection. Talking about good work ethics, Kairos Hair Story has it.
My pampering session started with a hair wash. It was good but if there were a bit more massage it would be perfect. I kinda let my hair designer, Jang Hee to decide on my hair style. I just told her I wanted my hair to be all up. She took a look at my dress, gave me a nod and started curling my hair with cool pre-heated hair rollers (ok lar... I am a bit jakun! I never see before mer!) I am pretty excited as I never in my life curled my hair before. I looked like I was having an Afro when she took the rollers down. All of the sudden my head grew a few inches bigger! She then started pinning and spraying my hair. Pins and spray. Pins and spray. Pins and spray. When she was doing my hair, she looked so serious. All she did was giving me a smile here n there. The other times when she talked was talking in Korean to her assistance directing her what to take. She used up a total of 45 PINS and probably half a can of the spray for my hair up. You should see the way she sprayed my hair. It was as though she was using her full force pressing on the aerosol trying to kill a cockroach!
After my hair up, I was then led to the make up room to have my make up done. I also told my makeup artist, Amy Park to do whatever she wants as long as I look pretty. =) She too took a look at my dress. She came back and said, "I will use pink, a little bit of red and a very thin eyeliner for you!". I really love her make up skills and she was really professional at it. At least she understood what type of make up suits us. My housemate who is usually very fussy loves her make up too. When a fussy girl never complains, it literally means very good.
Amy asked me if I would like to put on a fake eyelashes. I never tried it before. It only costs ten dollars extra. Why not right? I did it and my eyelashes were so freaking long. But beauty comes with a price to pay. About six hours later, the glue started to dry up. Whenever I blink my eyes, the glue 'poke' the bottom part of my eyes. I was practically tearing and the remaining night, I forced myself not to blink so many times. No more fake eyelashes for me! Thank you very much!
Halfway doing my make up, Amy: We will do manicure for you. Me: Errrr... Amy: Is FREE! Me: (happily smiling..) Oh okay!
Weee... I got myself a free manicure! Kairos service is so good, they even asked us to get ready in the saloon so that they can touch up and put glitter on our bodies. While we were getting ready, they kept coming to us to make sure everything looks alright. They seemed more excited than both of us.
By the time everything was done, the clock struck 5.45pm. We took two hours and fifteen minutes! And OH MY GOD! I seriously can't believe how I look! You don't get shock as well okay?
Yup... this is me! I look really different don't I? A nice way to put it, I have an oriental look. A not so nice way to put it, I look like an ah moi. I look super duper Chinese. I know I am Chinese but I felt I look extra Chinese that night.
My hair designer, Jang Hee. She doesn't look that serious afterall in this picture.
My make up artist, Amy Park. Both of them did a really great job in creating an oriental look for me. Honestly, I did not really fancy the 'curry puff' head. I did not expect that my statement of '...my hair all up' will turn out to be like this. However, I can't deny how well the hair style and make up blended in with my cheongsam.
After snapping more than 20 pictures in the saloon, we decided is time to head to our big night. Amy was so nice, she did not charge us for the fake eyelashes.
Free manicure + free fake eyelashes + excellent service. I am definitely going back there again.
ABC-W is an abbreviation for A B*TCHY CAFETERIA WOMAN.
Incident No.1
My housemate and I wanted to buy some snacks to munch while waiting for the time to pass till the next lecture. Both of us bought something from the cafeteria and thought of paying together. My housemate paid but the ABC-W did not add the other portion of the food. When she was about to give back the change, we said we want to pay everything together. She freaking ROLLED her eyes at us! Geez... I'm sorry that you took the time to solve the sum of $10-$2.70! I'm sorry that you have lousy mathematics skills to calculate $10-($2.70+$3.60)!!
Incident No.2
Again, I wanted to buy something to munch on. I just pointed out to her what I wanted and it was so bloody obvious it was that piece of potato cake because that was the only freaking potato cake left on the tray. Noooooo.. she can't be less b*tchy for once!
Me:(pointing to the potato cake) Can I have that? ABC-W: What is it that you want? Me:(still pointing to the potato cake) That. ABC-W: What is it called? Me: Errrr... POTATO CAKE?????
After I said that, she only moved to get the potato cake for me. What the hell??? She wanted me to freaking tell her is a potato cake. Arrghhh!!
Incident No.3
This is the worst of my worst encounter with her! First time I forgive her. She might be having PMS at that time. Second time, I still forgive her. Maybe it was coincidence that she was having PMS again. Third time, NO WAY is a coincidence!
My mind was already exhausted from the kidney lectures. I just wanted to get some food to ease my stomach and then chill in the lecture hall. I bought myself quite a good meal. Stewed lamb with potatoes. No green peas please! I did not want the poor ABC-W to work her brain for a simple mathematics calculation, I ended up giving her exact change! I brought the meal back to the lecture hall and realised I did not take any fork and knife. I left my meal and walked back to the cafeteria.
The cafeteria was packed with people. The forks and knives are usually placed in a basket next to the cashier. A girl was blocking me when I was trying to get the fork and knife. As soon as she moved away, I reached out for the fork. I was only ONE CENTIMETRE away from the fork! The ABC-W dragged the basket away from me! She even gave me a HAHA-you-are-not-getting-the-fork smile! Okay... fine! I may be wrong. I smiled back and reached for the fork.
Still holding strong on the basket, she said, . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . "FIVE CENTS!"
HOW FREAKING CHEAP CAN SHE BE????!!!!! I freaking bought a LARGE meal from her and I don't deserve to get a PLASTIC fork and knife!!!In disbelief, I told her I just bought a meal from her with my POLITE intonation! The fact is I was burning hot inside reaching 150 degrees. I knew she will not be satisfied to give me the fork. But she had to. Being so kind of her, she gave me only A, ONE, SATU, δΈ€ , ICHI, MOT, FORMULE, NUENG, UN fork! Not even a knife!
B*TCH!
P/S: I wrote this entry when I was at my peak! Sorry if I have offended any of you. =)
