Barley Part 2: Taman Ayun Temple, Bedegul Floating Temple, Candi Kuning Market, Tanah Lot

The key to an enjoyable romantic getaway in Bali is by hiring a good driver who takes you around to attraction spots. Days before our romantic getaway, we hired Wayan by smsing him. Wayan was a local guy who speaks good English. He was polite and friendly. The best thing was he only charges Rp 300K per day. We hired him for three days. Both Bean and I really enjoyed his company throughout our trip until the point we miss him so much when we could not see him the next day. Till now, we still miss him. He became more like a friend than a driver.

On the first day, we went to three different temples of the same kind. Our first stop was Taman Ayun Temple.

Not too sure about the history of the temple. But I know the things you could do at Taman Ayun Temple are:

1) walking around the temple which is a square. If you are lucky, you get to see people doing some ritual prayers in the vicinity of the temple which you are not allowed to go in.

2) climb up a little tower which is located on the left hand side after you pass the entrance to enjoy the view around Taman Ayun Temple. Nothing particular spectacular though.

3) camwhore around the temple. =P

The next temple we visited was Bedegul Floating Temple. As the name suggested, this place was famous for the temple floating on a lake.

We were quite lucky to eye witnessed a ritual ceremony at Bedegul Floating Temple. Ermm... do not know what was it about but it involved a bunch of woman supporting a 'tikar' touring around this special tree with music of traditional instruments accompanying them. Along the way, a man would cut out some leaves which would be caught by the woman using the 'tikar'.

And that's about it. We spent only 20 minutes there.

We did a little pit stop at Candi Kuning Market famous for selling fruits? And some Balinese souvenirs which we were totally not interested in. All I did there were answering some nature's call- wee wee. I had two options.

The word 'deluxe' had caught my eye. Together with 'western'? OMG!!! That was heaven!!!!!!!!! I didn't care that it cost Rp1000 more. I picked that one and had an enjoyable peeing time. Ahhhh....

The last place for the day was Tanah Lot. Due to our fast-walking and a-bit-too-fast-speed-looking at the places above, we ended up having about 3 hours at Tanah Lot till sunset. Tanah Lot is another temple famous for its spectacular view of sunset.

You honestly could not believe what happened once we reached Tanah Lot. I had stomach ache and needed to solve some big business. After the great experience at Candi Kuning Market, I was expecting the same 'Deluxe Western Toilet' at Tanah Lot. Of course right?? I stopped by at this public toilet with full expectation of what I had in mind. But I was WRONG!!!!!!!! There were no flush! No strings to pull to flush! Where in the world still using toilet without flush? I know now. BALI! Gahhhhhh... How to do what I was suppose to do la?

Me: I don't want use that!
Bean: Just pour the water la!
Me: I DON'T WANT!!!!!!!! NO FLUSH ONE!!!
Bean: Okay... there is another one down there. I used that one before.
Me: With F.L.U.S.H??

Guess what? Bean brought me to the one he went BEFORE. It was the exact same one. NO FLUSH. What was worst was the toilet was DIRTIER!!!!!!!! OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!! I freaking gonna kill him. I screamed at him, 'SO DIRTY!!!!!!!! I cannot believe you could not remember when you had used it before like 5 months ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want to go back to the other one!'

Bean became impatient. He wasn't being very nice okay! He was giving me all the why-you-so-damn-mafan-? attidude. All I wanted was him being more considerate for a girl like me who cannot at all tolerate dirty places. The toilet was so dirty and I have never used a toilet without flush before! It would be fine if I just needed to wee. Oh well... in the end, he took me back to the other toilet. And I was still upsest with him after I did what I was suppopse to do. =P

Okay... back to Tanah Lot. It was burning hot that day. Both Bean and I had terrible sun burn. We were tan from walking around Tanah Lot. Not because we sunbath or something! There are four things that you could do at Tanah Lot:

1) before you actually reach the temple itself, along the way you could do some shopping of Balinese souvenirs. There are also shops like Crocs which I believe is NOT fake and Ralph Lauren which I believe is fake. I am not 100% sure but the polos are way cheaper than anywhere else and I do not really want to risk myself buying some fakes. Some restaurants/ stalls which you could drop by to have a drink.

2) pat some sacred snake which you need to pay. Bean and I thought it was a waste of money and therefore, we did not pat the sacred snake.

3) having a priest to bless you with some holy water which you need to pay as well. Nope... we skipped this as well.

4) just enjoy the view around Tanah Lot. Sadly, we could not catch the sunset because rain started pouring. However, we got a few nice pictures taken before the rain.

Though it seems like we did not do much except visiting temples, it turned out to be quite tiring. This is because it is very far journey from one place to another. Traveling time may take up till 1 hour and 30 minutes.

The end of our day 1 romantic getaway.

Admission Fee
Taman Ayun Temple: Rp 3000
Bedegul Floating Temple: Rp 10,000
Tanah Lot: Rp 10,000

Barley Part 1: The Late Affair

Bean and I are finally back from our romantic getaway in Bali. The holiday was wonderful and I brought back the biggest souvenir. Fever, cough and flu. And the sweetest thing was having someone to feel my forehead for temperature.

Our romantic getaway started off with a little adventure. Bean came home telling me the flight was at 7.00pm instead of 8.00pm. (
UPDATE: Bean insisted that I write this. I was the one who actually read the time of flight wrongly. It wasn't his fault!!!!) Our taxi was only arriving at 5.00pm. The ride to the airport turned out to be heart wrenching with adrenaline rushing. The taxi driver was speeding on the over-crowded road with cars, squeezing into emergency lane all the way to Sepang. Bean stared at me and I stared back at Bean. Both of us raised our little eyebrow. An understanding action indicating the taxi driver was awesome.

Once we got down from the taxi, all Bean asked me to do was RUN!!! In high heels, dammnit!! Bean quickly lugged our baggage into the scanner for security check while pushing me to the counter. 'Which counter??', I screamed. '32!!!', he answered back. With the fastest speed I could accelerating to counter 32. Stood right in front of it. No queue. No one. No sign of 'QZ8937: Denpasar'.

SHIT! SHIT! SHIT! I heard myself whispering! The counter must have bloody closed!!! I screamed across the floor for Bean, 'BABY!!!!!!!!! THERE IS NO ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!'

The fella screaming back to me saying he was sorry. The counter was 23. -_-

And apparently, I CONFUSED him!

What the?!

The good news was we made it for the flight. We were not the latest as there was another woman queuing behind us. The advantage of being late for the flight is you don't need to wait for long to board the plane.

A smile before boarding the plane.

Hello Denpasar!

He Reads Me

Bean: This was my kindergarten school!
Me: S…
Bean: (in high pitched voice attempting to imitate me) Stop repeating things ten times! I know la! You told me before! You think I cannot remember is it?
Me: I…
Bean (again in high pitched voice attempting to imitate me) I hate you!

Honestly! When do I even get a chance to talk? The thing is he hit Every. Single. Point. Right!

SO ANNOYING!

And the best way to retort back is...

Just shuff the paper in his face! =P

P/S: Back from Bali. Recovering from fever and cough and flu. Doxycycline is a damn nuisance! Arrgh!

Things To Whine About

I have so many things to whine about because they are all annoying the hell out of me! Bah!!!

The weather.
There are only three words to describe the weather here. Hot. Hot. And hot. Oh... that's one. Don't get me wrong. I love hot sunny weather. But seriously... this is too much. I am getting so many breakouts, it is killing me! I wouldn't complain of the weather if my face is as smooth as tofu.

The air quality.
I never actually complain about this for the past 22 years that I have lived. And I will never even whine about it if my eyes actually stop tearing and my nose stops itching. Every night I would be getting eye sores with excessive tearing as close as I am to suffering from conjunctivitits. My nose... OH MY GOD! The mucus never stops flooding my nostrils! This is so bad!

The air cond.
My air cond spits out ice. Literally.

The hair.
The hair stylist that I usually go to is on confinement. My hair is so freaking out of shape. My fringe is not a fringe anymore because it is so darn bloody long. Before you think I go to some posh saloon, I actually don't. I visits those cheap cheap saloon because she is good! Most importantly, she makes my hair looks good!

The stomach.
I am hungry right now. I better go out to get some food before the rain starts pouring.

Whining stops here.

Kenko Fish Spa

On a stressful Sunday afternoon, after my attempt of driving Bean's manual car- it was utterly embarrassing when I hit the main road. I was driving at 30km/h. The poor car behind me had to tagged along for five minutes not including the time the car died. Most of the time I was screaming because I had no idea what to do. Thank god for the invention of automatic car. Making driving a more confident event. Both Bean and I headed for a little spa treatment with some fishes chewing off our feet.

We went to the Mid Valley branch and coincidentally they were having some Christmas package. We chose the Package B which consists of fish spa treatment, foot reflexology and shoulder massage. All came up to the price of RM69/person.

Kenko Fish Spa Worker: So, you guys took the Package B right?
Bean: Yah.. The Santa Claus Package!
Me: BABY! Stop calling it the Santa Claus Package! Is called PACKAGE B!!!

Somehow Bean enjoyed calling it the Santa Claus package! He refused to call it Package B! Probably he can't wait for the festive season!

The place looked quite high class actually. At first, they required us to wash out feet with some enzyme to kill the bacterias. Then with the assess card, we scanned and then proceed to the few pools/ponds/ watever you wanna name it as. There were one pond with small fishes, two ponds with medium size fishes and two ponds with large size fishes. Oh... another pond with mix sizes of fishes.

At first, we damn smart, we went to the wrong pond! We went to the large size fishes pond. For the first experience, we were terrified because those large fishes were furious! They came and bit us in chunks! I could feel their teeth! Ugh... we jumped off the pond straight away and headed to the small fishes one. Even with the small fishes, it took us quite some time in getting used to the feeling of the fishes biting us.

Sizes of the fish relative to each other...

<---->
<---------->
<-------------------------->

To make our money worth while, we tried all three types of fishes. Anyway, it was just matter of time to get used to the feeling the fishes biting us.

Result after 30 minutes of the fish spa treatment: the feet did actually get much smoother. But I came back with few fish bites scar. No biggie about it.

I was pretty surprised with the foot reflexology and shoulder massage. The people that were performing the massage on us were very professional. So was the place. No people talking loudly or them talking to us. Just pure silence with soothing music played in the background. Perfect. I seriously hate those services where they kept interrupting with conversations or backgrounds with kids running around making noises. I paid for some relaxing moments! Not for conversations! Geez...

When we got home, we told my parents that we went for the fish spa.

Parents: How much is it?
Us: Ermmm.. RM38 for 30 minutes fish spa treatment!
Parents: WHATTTT? So expensive! I could buy the fishes, RM2.00 for one!
Us: (char dou feeling) Okay.
Parents: And cheh... the fishes are from CHINA!

Ugly Foot

WARNING: GRUESOME LOOKING PICTURE AHEAD.

Last few days, I was wearing my heels and took a darn long walk along Yarra River. Resulting in having a very sore feet. A bump started growing under my feet because of too much pressure on that area. Just yesterday, the bump turned out to be like some watery 'boil'. Don't exactly know the exact term but yah... imagine a little bump with water inside. I don't know what to do with it except to poke it! After I poke it, I had fun cutting out the skin.

Now my freaking foot looks like this...

.
.
.
.
.
.

And it freaking HURTS!!!

Worst thing is, I will be wearing heels later. To catch the flight home.

It will be hurting. But anything for beauty!

How To Cook Curry Crabs?

This is my housemate and I first attempt in cooking crabs. Surprisingly the dish turned out to be good! Can't wait to have the next attempt because I secretly fell in love with eating crabs.

Recipe for Curry Crabs (Serves 2)

Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 20 minutes

  • 2 flower crabs
  • 1 stalk of lemongrass
  • 1 small packet of coconut milk
  • 1 onion
  • 1 packet of curry paste of your choice
  • 1 cup of water
1) Scrub the crabs with a brush if you have one or just scrub it with the scouring pad that you use to wash the dishes. (Sounds crazy... but mum kinda advise me to do so... )
2) Lift the shell crab lightly to detach it from the body and chop it into two.

3) Heat 2 tablespoon of oil.
4) Fry the onions and lemongrass till fragrant.
5) Add in the curry paste and fry till fragrant as well.
6) Add the water and coconut milk. Bring it to boil.
7) Stir in the crabs. Fry the crabs till cook.
8) Serve hot.

Give it a try!

Inspired Art

I have added a few pictures on my side bar. The pictures are all related to the places that I had been lucky enough to visit with my man. I know my skills aren't superbly keng and they might not necessary resembles the places we have visited. But heck, is cute okay!

The famous A-Famosa in Melaka. Wanted to draw the cannons but how the hell do you draw cannons??

Langkawi and beach go together. Not forgetting, the little crab... Yes, is a damn crab!!

Our little road trip to Great Ocean Road to view the 12 Apostles. There are no 12 apostles in my picture because in reality, you don't see all twelve on one stretch. Few of them are on the other side.

Oh oh... my favourite out of the four. Our latest vacation to Bangkok.

Tee hee... this is inspired by...

How can I forget this reclining buddha after the shocking experience of standing there for a whole 5 minutes for Bean to capture this shot for six times. Honestly, ALL six shots look exactly the SAME! Fine... the buddha head looks bigger in some of the pictures. =P

Well, that's about it for now. I am sure there will be more pictures for me to draw in the future.

Maybe... the Great Wall Of China in Beijing? what about the Eiffel Tower in Paris??? Hmmm... Taj Mahal in India??

Am I right, boyfriend? *hint*

P/S: This is inspired by my best friend.

How To Drink A Sukao?

While I was looking through my pictures folders, I came across this video that was meant to be posted up long time ago.

Just in case if you are wondering, Bean is starring in this video. =)

It was video-ed few months back when he was here in Melbourne for holiday. I brought him to Max Brenner to try out some hot chocolate. And of course I didn't bring him there to try some common hot chocolate that you drink from a normal cup.

'You taking video??? Cannot be too big file!'

Gee... you stir faster la! -_-

Egg Bombing

A few days ago, I boiled an egg and it was actually meant for dinner. But then my friend called and I had no choice but to chuck the boiled egg back into the fridge.

Today, I took the egg out from the fridge for lunch. I peeled the shell off and of course I wasn't planning to eat a hard boiled cold egg. I was so clever, I chucked the boiled egg into the microwave to reheat my egg.

Guess what...
.
.
.
.
.
.

.

The whole egg EXPLODED.

Damn. I thought I was smart.

The Amazing Race Asia

Do you get the adrenaline rush by watching Amazing Race? I do. I just finished watching the first episode of season 3 The Amazing Race Asia. Oh my god... I screamed at the laptop screen because the groups were picking tougher detours. Clenched my fists when groups were rushing to the pit stop. Seriously! Who ever does that man? Silly me.

The Amazing Race has been my all time favourite reality tv show. My high school friends and I have always dream to participate it. Now that The Amazing Race Asia recruits Malaysians as participants, I couldn't help it but to bring it up to Bean and asked him casually about participating.

Me: Baby!!! Let's join the Amazing Race!
Bean: Huh? We are gonna break up!

My first reaction was... WHAT??????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But in my heart, I couldn't agree more.

The fact that I am such an impatient person and he is such a patient person.
The fact that I flare up easily in nerve wrecking situation and he is as calm as how the tortoise moves.
The fact that he is the 'calm before the storm' and I am the 'storm' itself.

Oh well... I believe in opposite attracts.

P/S: New Year's Eve has planned out. Bean and I are spending the night watching Mammia Mia Musical at Istana Budaya. Weeee...

A Day In Emergency Department

Work started an hour earlier because I was scheduled to be in the emergency department for a day. I walked passed the entry of the emergency department where all the ambulances parked. It looked a bit quiet and truthfully, I was a bit disappointed. Fine... I admit that I was a bit mean because I wanted to have a chance to experience everything in just merely eight hours that I would be there.

After greeted by our emergency department pharmacist, we went for hand-over meeting in the emergency department where the night shift doctors and nurses hand over their patients to the next shift. It sounded exactly like what I watched in Grey's Anatomy. Doctor explained, '45 year old woman suffering from head trauma...bla bla bla...' Anyway... the meeting wasn't really that interesting. But too my surprise, it was a damn busy day. All the beds were filled up!! Weeee....

So... what kind of patients did I meet?

1. My morning started with knowing a patient who had a suicidal attempt by swallowing HALF a litre of hydrochloric acid. The whole emergency department was talking about how could she swallow so much of it. The smell of the hydrochloric acid is so damn pungent! When she entered the hospital, she was bleeding through every orifice of her body surface. Apparently, the whole floor was dripped with blood. I did not manage to see the patient. Sadly, I heard she passed away at 12 noon. =(

2. After learning this term god knows how many times, I finally see what seizures are in epileptic patients.

3. I heard of a man who was having alcohol withdrawal in the hand-over meeting. I passed by this bed where the guy was flushing and shivering. Wonder if he was the one the doctors were talking about?

4. Haha... I saw this typical patient screaming for pain killers and swearing, 'WHERE IS THE NURSE WITH MY PAIN KILLERS!!!!!'. No one paid attention to him. =P

5. Oh oh... there was this patient who was singing in his sleep!

6. I witnessed the most traumatised event at the end of the day.

My pharmacist: Have you guys seen resuscitation?
Me: No...
My pharmacist: Pop ur head in there...

And I saw the doctor standing above the patient pumping hardly on his chest trying to resuscitate him. It honestly did not look as good as what you see in tv. My heart was weaken when I witnessed that. I could hear every single strong pump. I was worried and shocked at the same time. All I wanted was for the patient to be okay...
I could not manage to see the end result because I was shooed off.

Interesting day but I was facing too many deaths in day.

Appreciate life.

seizures: jerky movements that a person cannot control

orifice: any opening of a body

resuscitate: to bring back to life

Top 5 Stuff Kit Learnt In Placement

1. Kit learnt that she eats more during placement. A glass of milk in the morning. A cup of hot chocolate during morning tea break. Packed lunch from home consisted of rice, vegetables and meat plus a banana plus two bars of KitKat for lunch. A cheese&ham sandwich for afternoon tea break. There are absolutely nothing to do during breaks besides eating. Wonder she has put on some weight?

2. Kit learnt that the moisturizer dispenser outside her pharmacy satellite is very useful. She now have the habit of dispensing a small amount of moisturizer for her hands everytime she walks in and out of the satellite. That is like... every ten minutes? It smells so damn good. Totally love it.

3. Kit learnt that she loves the after work rush. She loves the huge amount of people crossing the roads and millions of trams congesting the city.

4. Kit learnt that 40 minutes are insufficient for her to get ready in the morning but she tends to wake up later and later each time! Gahhhh....

5. Kit learnt why her boyfriend sleeps so early every night after work.
(Bean: Finally!) Tee hee...

P/S: I was stuck with drug info today and I suddenly miss my preceptor who asks a lot of questions eventhough at times his questions made me look very stupid because I always can't answer his questions. However, I learn so much under him. The sad thing is I won't get to work with him anymore. =(

First Day

I have officially worked 8 hours today, started at 9.00am. Finally completed my first day of placement and I couldn't help it but to say how much I enjoyed my first day. I learn just so many things. (Besides the fact that I felt quite stupid not remembering half of what I studied thus not able to answer the questions being chucked at my face! Sigh... )

Another 8 hours tomorrow! Gosh... I actually forgot how it feels like to wake up at 7.00am in the morning. I haven't done it since college! What is worst is I have to wake up earlier tomorrow because work officially starts at 8.30am!

P/S: You guys should so visit kennysia's blog. What he just updated really made my day. Is so damn funny! So everybody, click here! Trust me... is all worth it.

Unexpected Happiness

Remember the dress that I told you I was deeply madly insanely in love with?

Last Wednesday, I had my hopes and dreams high up to buy my dress from Portmans with 20% discount in Melbourne Central as it was having a VIP sale on that day. I had no other intention to shop anything else except to bring the lovely dress back to my home. Once I stepped my foot into the shop, I was frantically searching for my dress. Looking at every corner, every aisle, every rack. But to my disappointment, my dress was not anywhere to be seen. I asked the salesgirls and they did not even know which dress I was talking about. Sigh... I had no other choice but to leave the shop empty handed. I ended up buying a top for Bean.

As usual, I whined to Bean about the shop not selling my dress and that I really love it. And just yesterday I found out that he did not even understand what I was whining about. He thought the shop did not have my size! *puke blood*

After the sad episode on last Wednesday, I have decided to pay the full $140 for my dress because I have been dreaming about it every single night.

So there I was again heading back to the exact same store where I found my dress. I stomped into the shop to the exact location where the dress was used to be. MY DRESS WAS NOT THERE ANYMORE! NO FREAKING WHERE TO BE SEEN! OMG.... I FREAKING CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE! FOR THE FREAKING SECOND TIME!! Okay nevermind, calm down! Calm down! I asked the salesgirl if she seen a beautiful white dress with black flowers on it made of silk. She took me around the whole shop pointing to me which ever white dress she saw or which ever dress with flowers on it. And all I did was shook my head! All of the dresses she showed me were not the one that I am looking for. I seriously was about to give up until the salesgirl asked her colleague and she said she remembered trying it on! After five minutes, the girl came to me with the dress in her hands! OHHHH YESSS!! MY dress... my love!!!

Salesgirl: Oh... this dress is on sale!!!! $99.95!

*jaws dropped* WHAT????? $99.95??? That is a FREAKING bargain!!

Oh my god... She honestly made my day. Until another salesgirl came to me...
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
There is an extra 20% off today!

*jaws double dropped* WHAT?????!!!!!! EXTRA 20% OFF?!!!! Is this my lucky day or what????

My dress came up to a total of...

$79.95

*cheeky smile*

Tee hee... bloody happy (and this is an understatement!) =D

Placement

One thing great about my uni is that they arrange placements for you in different type of Pharmacy environment such as hospital, community and rural (yes.. the ulu-ulu areas that do no have anything but trees... just kidding!).

So I have finally received my first placement few weeks ago. And my first placement is going to be in hospital! I am sorta picturing me going to experience some gruesome looking conditions in patients. Hopefully something like severe head trauma or lost of a hand with blood flushing out. Something like you see in Grey's Anatomy. =P Isn't that cool? Okay fine... I am mean. I am hoping people will be injured so that I could see them. But but... I am just trying to get the most out of my placement you see! =D Maybe the placement that I am going to experience is far off from what I am expecting it to be. I probably involve in sticking labels? Blekss... Please please... don't just ask me to stick labels? *doe eyes*

Believe it or not, I was pretty excited to receive the name tag! Wahaahaha... OMG... Now I could act all professional, 'Good morning sir, I am Kit. How are you feeling today? Oh... you probably just need some Demazin. Take this x times a day after meals!' Fuh.... So professional!!! Geee... I doubt I will be diagnosing patients and prescribing them meds. And again... I probably involve in sticking labels!

I could not believe they are so strict on clothings because it must be business wear! And what would I do to get the perfect outfit? You are so right! SHOPPINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!! Somehow after I did all my shopping, I kinda feel I am going for a fashion show rather than doing some serious jobs in Pharmacy! Tee hee... but at least I am having fun dressing up in high waist skirt with button shirt. Totally love it! Sadly, they do not allow high heels! *sobs*

Anyway... wish me luck that I will have loads of fun!!!

P/S: Stop asking me how much I am earning because the fact is I am earning 0 dollar for 8 hours 5 days a week job! Bean thinks that I am worst than a kuli because kuli get paid at least but at a minimal wage. He terms me as a 'slave'. *ouch*

What Is Pressure?

Another cute conversation that I have came across with Bean...

Topic on density

Me: Baby... what is density?
Bean: Tak ingat lah...
Me: Density is mass over volume!!!

Topic on pressure

Me: Then what is pressure?
Bean: Pressure is STRESS la!

Temptation

Yooo... I honestly can't decide if I should buy this...

The white stuff is not on my face. The mirror is dirty! Dress from Portsman.

Reason I should buy:
1) It is very pretty.
2) It fits me well.
3) I do not have a black and white flowery dress.
4) I like it.

Reason I should not buy:
It costs $140!

Buy or don't buy??????????

Sigh... This is harder than choosing husband.

Sweet Tooth

Cupcakes are such hot stuffs right now, everybody is buying and eating one. My housemates and I tried not to lose out on this. So instead of buying it, we baked the cupcakes last Sunday. We had so much fun stirring the flour, beating the egg and scooping the mix into the paper case and every other surface around the paper case! Oh oh... and we found out that we all have a little art talent in us.

Decorating each of the baby cupcakes were so much fun. Not until we ate them. It was just so damn bloody freaking sweet!! All of us had to scrape off the icing and little decos on it off. All our effort in decorating the cupcakes kinda went into the rubbish bin!

Anyhow... baking is so fun! I can't wait to do it again next time!

Bang Cock Part 4: Chatuchak Weekend Market

I have heard everyone talked about it. I have heard everyone screamed about it. It is the shopping paradise that everyone loves. Bean said, 'My friend asked me if my girlfriend likes shopping and I said yes. My friend then said that you will loooooveeeeee this place!'

Chatuchak Weekend Market was honestly one of the biggest market I have been too. The other huge markets I had been to were wet markets to buy fish, chicken , pork and vegetables. And the market was flooded with people. People were crazily bargaining and shopping. There were people carrying HUUUGEEE bags. I actually wondered what did they buy so much. I wanted to be part of them too! Bean and I did walk the whole market. TWICE! We went back there again the very next day before we flew off. We probably spent more than five hours there! People told me if you like something just buy it because you would never find back the stall again. HA! HOW WRONG???? We had no problems at all! Probably Bean and I are very good with directions! *pats self*

You honestly could not believe the range of stuff they sell in Chatuchak. There were clothes, handbags, food, pets ranging from the tiniest hamster to the largest husky, pots and plants, more clothes, more hand bags, crafts (a great place to buy stuff to decorate your home!) and loads more of stuff. They even have courier services to send your stuff back to your country! Unbelievable!

Anyway... I seriously did not find the place as great as everyone has described. It wasn't even a shopping paradise for me. I wouldn't pay 300 baht for just a simple dress. Somehow I did not find worth paying. People thought I would go crazy with picking Barley back from the market which I totally did not. I pity the dogs more than liking them. I was actually annoyed with the hot weather. Bean was complaining the most and he kept wanting to walk under the shade. The sun was really not being very nice that day. So we ended up choosing a place and started drinking beer. In broad daylight. I know... weird. What weirder was I got tipsy. Only a bit! =P

Probably the only thing I enjoyed was the ice stick that only cost 20 cents. Ahhh... at least that helped to cool the heat down. Cola was my favourite.

Oh one of the funniest moment I had in Chatuchak was...

Bean: Baby!!! You want some squiggy???
Me: Boyfriend... is SCRUNCHIES!!!!! (and I couldn't stop laughing! =P)

At the end of the day, I only bought three t-shirts (Little Miss Sunshine for Bean's friend, Little Miss Contrary for my best friend and Little Miss Busy for myself!), two little make up bags (one to put my hand cream, tissue paper and lip balm to bring it to uni and the other one safely protecting my eye... haha... I mean iPod) and a dog bone for my dog (I am serious!).

Bean said, 'SHIT! My girlfriend doesn't like cheap stuff!'

Maybe he is right...oopsi...

P/S: This concludes my entries on our trip to Bangkok!

Wicked Wicked

Wednesday has officially become a housemates day where four of us do not cook and go out to enjoy a dinner. But sadly due to our tight budget, housemates day only occurs once a month on a Wednesday. Oh... I forgot to mention the most exciting part about housemates day is we get to dress up!

Last Wednesday was our very first official housemate day and we chose to watch the new musical in town, Wicked. Wicked is all about the untold story of the witches of Oz. In another words, it is the story of Wizard of Oz in the wizard point's of view. Wicked is so wicked because it cost me a bomb for the ticket! Despite me being upset over the expensive ticket, I was so excited about it I couldn't sit still in lectures.

I have never been to any theatres in Melbourne before. This in fact was my very first musical in Melbourne. I was awestruck when I stepped into Regent Theatre on Collin's St. The architecture of the theatre was really really beautiful. At least I felt it was la.

Before the show started, we treated ourselves with pre-musical drinks. I saw people holding green cocktail glasses with shining green light which really tempted me to buy as well. Plus the name they gave for the drink, Ozmopoliton made me couldn't resist in buying! Oh my god... the freaking lady asked for my ID when I ordered the Ozmopoliton! GAhhhh! Why can't people stop checking my ID? I am twen-teen two man! Not EIGHTEEEN! (Yes.. I am being delusional about me not being a teenager anymore.)

Back to the musical... I don't want to say much about it in case I spoil it for other people who intend to watch it. I personally felt that it was quite good but I wish there were more 'happy' songs instead of just slow draggy songs. The casts were fantastic and it would be awesome if there are more handsome looking casts. Their voices were exceptionally melodious. And I finally found out the pair of shoes Dorothy was wearing belong to who.

After two and a half hours of great musical, I caught this sign when I was on my way out...

Dammnit! So damn true! I had uni the next day...

Bang Cock Part 3: Grand Palace & Wat Pho

One of the main highlights of our Bangkok trip was to visit these twp 'claimed-to-be-top-attraction-spots' temple because I just wanted to take pictures and showed that I've been to Bangkok simply love temples.

I have read through some tips on trip advisor about not wearing shorts, not getting conned, not wearing open toes shoes and yadda yadda yadda. It was pretty informative until the day before I flew to Bangkok, I realised I did not bring back my sport shoes. My range of footwears were heels, heels and pretty much heels. In the end I thought a great idea of bringing socks. And HA! I did not even have a pair of socks back home and I had to borrow the pair of pink socks from my mum! Enough about the footwear because I did not even have to wear close toes shoes.

We took the cab directly to the Grand Palace but we were pretty lost on where the hell was the entrance. A tuk-tuk driver kept pointing to the right side and I saw a whole bunch of tourist walking to the same direction made me think that the entrance was really in that direction! Halfway while walking and doubting, a man wearing a 'Grand Palace' uniform came to attend the two blur headed tourists. He was totally sweet opening up umbrellas so that we do not have to stand under the sun and started explaining to us where was the entrance until...

Grand Palace Man: Oh... now the temple is not open for tourists until 2.00pm.
Bean and I: Huh?
Grand Palace Man: Because the King's sister died!

Stupid idiot tried to con us to some what standing buddha which was few hundred miles away. Idiot! Honestly, he looked freaking genuine but we were smart enough to escape from him! Again... idiot!

Anyhow, we managed to get rid of the con man and found our way to the Grand Palace. We had to rent sarong and pants because Bean was wearing shorts and I was actually wearing leggings. They did not state no leggings allowed also! They said no shorts only what! Arrghhh.. It was bloody hot to wear the sarong on top of my leggings adding to the hot weather in Bangkok! But thank god the sarong was not as ugly looking as I was expecting.

So what is so great about the Grand Palace? It was pretty facinating for the first 10 minutes I was there but the hot weather was really catching on to me. Plus the temples kinda looked the same. =P You judge it for yourself... pictures starting from here...

Some temple that I do not know the name of...

Close up on the details...

Bean and I

Some reconstructing to do...

The heat is making an unhappy me...

So did the heat made him unhappy too...

This place is hugeeeee and we walked the whole place! I am proud of my peserverance to walk in the heat!

Wat Pho was a painful 20 minutes walk from the Grand Palace. The painful thing was there were millions of idiots trying to show us the wrong direction when there was a sign clearly indicating that both of us were walking towards the right direction! I hope they do not believe in karma! Ish... Anyway... the main attraction in Wat Pho is the reclining Buddha.

This shot was taken 6 FREAKING TIMES! And Bean asked me if he should take up Photography as a hobby. What do you think my answer was after an experience of standing at the same spot for 5 minutes for the same freaking shot for six times??

You can donate a small sum of cash in turn of a handful of tokens that you can place in each of the 'bowl'. I think you can make a wish beforehand or something...

The whole view of the reclining Buddha.

Admission Fee
Grand Palace: 300baht
Wat Pho: 50baht

Opening Hours
8.30am till 3.30pm

Attire
No shorts/skirts/anything that shows off your beautiful legs. You can show them off in some other places.
You can rent their sarongs (for females) or pants (for males) at no cost. However, you are required to place a deposit which you can claim back at the end of your little tour.

**DO NOT TRUST ANYONE! They will tell you something like 'the temple is closed for some special function' and they will recommend you to visit some other temples instead that requires you to take tuk-tuk! Just try to figure your way out and you will be fine. The more tourists you see, the better chances you are in the right place.
